Michael Teitelbaum books and SatAM

So, after reading through a few Teitelbaum books, it seems like it takes a lot of content from SatAM, but retells them in a different way; for instance, "Robotnik's Revenge" talks about how Bunnie gets roboticized in a different way than what happened in SatAM, and "Fortress of Fear" has an alternate take on how the Freedom Fighters learn about and acquire the King's list of Freedom Fighters. In fact, out of all of the novels I've found in the series, only two - Sonic X-Treme and Sonic and Knuckles - had wholly original stories not based on episodes of SatAM, and even then, I think the latter novel could be influenced by the rumors that Knuckles was going to be introduced in the scrapped Season 3.

So, what can we make of this? Can we consider the Teitelbaum books an alternate SatAM continuity, its own continuity, or what?

I used to see those books in stores or book fairs. I believe, though I'm not sure, that I even read one. They are interesting. However, like a lot of children's books (such as the Powerpuff Girls ones), they are mostly fast cash-ins using the existing stories from comics / cartoons / games / etc. This often results in a real melting pot of stories from any official sources.

I think the best way to think about one of these things is not as a part of any of the existing universes, but as its own separate universe.
