I was really disappointed to see this news in my RSS feed this morning. The end of an era, that's for sure. I wonder if we'll ever know exactly what transpired over the last few months and why Sega and Archie finally decided to part ways. Ian Flynn mentioned on Twitter that he'll have some more to say about it this weekend.

One thing's for sure: this comic had an unbelievable run. 24 years. From SatAM until today. Wow.

Well I might not have liked the closer to the games "reboot" universe as much as the old universe I did like some of the new characters.

Thunderbolt: I like that Dr. Robotnik finally had a minion who actually liked working for him.
Phage: Had potential and felt like A.D.A.M. done right.
Breezie: A good take on an AOSTH character who was just originally a Jessica Rabbit wannabe. I'm sad that we'll never know if she was a robot or not.
Dr. Ellidy: His story was tragic. I was looking forward to seeing where his relationship with Nicole would have gone.
Cassia and Clove: Of all the reboot verse characters losing them really hurts. They were interesting character with great designs.

So even though I liked the old universe's characters better, I'm still going to miss the new universe's characters as well.

who thinks the #291 would surface as a finished issue someday? I mean, surely work on it had been ended, before SoA+Archie agreement broke, so at least scans would reach the net someday, to close the last saga, It's not fair at all that a series go away leaving fans in a cliffhanger isn't it?

If we know how would go SatAM's S3... or IDW can release their first issue closing that arc... That would be nice and emotive and such...

I'm okay with this, and I'd actually prefer that the Sonic franchise move on without the Freedom Fighters. I could write some big essay about this, but what it really comes down to is the following. If you have to change them so much, to the point that they aren't even recognizable anymore and cut out everything that made SatAM the great show it was, I'd rather just respectfully let the characters go. I have zero interest in anything Sonic-related outside of SatAM, and from the exposure that I've had to the fandom, I've come to the conclusion that if those freaks want Sonic, they can have Sonic. I'm just glad the Freedom Fighters will be left out of their nonsense now.

With the way the comics were going the past few years, I wasn't surprised to see Archie finally pulling the plug on this long lasting comic series.

A shame, since to this very day I consider the Sonic franchise to be one of the most divided ones out there. Perhaps the Freedom Fighters were never meant to be outside of SatAm or the comics. I can definitely tell you that the four initial characters (Princess Sally, Antoine, Bunnie Rabbot and Rotor) were much more entertaining and better written than the crap characters Sonic Team has put out over the past 20 years.

Apart from Knuckles, Amy and a couple others, I felt the other characters Sonic Team designed were just thrown in there for the hell of it. Princess Sally was one of the best written Sonic characters out there. The good writers at DiC who wrote the stories for Sonic SatAM back in 1993 - 1994 really wrote her well. Sonic had a love interest I cared about, and Archie further fleshed out her story and origins in the comics.

Even Antoine is more entertaining and better written than a lot of the characters SEGA likes to put in for their Sonic games.

Sonic SatAM and Archic's Sonic the Hedgehog were probably two of the best western Sonic fandoms the fans could ask for. I will always remember the comic issues leading up to the Endgame series with Sonic fighting Robotnik (#47-50), only to find Princess Sally didn't exactly die. From that point however the series started it's slow decline. The comics went through multiple writers and artists to where I almost felt like I was reading a different series altogether.

Farewell then. It was a good run. Sad to know the 'new' generation of 12 - 20+ year olds just starting high school and college now will probably never experience the thrill we had when we looked forward to the old Sonic cartoons and comics, or even the games for that matter. I'm glad to be a part of the generation that did experience it, and will always enjoy those memories years from now.

Im way behind on this, but Im up to issue 278. Ive been recently catching up since I started reading the issues I missed out on since 2010. I guess my reaction to sum everything up is "WTF?" So Eggman essentially destroyed Mobius and it somehow rebooted itself with rectoned backstories and jarring looking character designs? I mean its refreshing to see an updated design, but...why does everyone look generic and bland? Why do they act like lobotomized goofs devoid of their original personalities? The other disappointment is everyone aside from the Freedom Fighters and Sonic Game characters were wiped from existence. Prince Elias, Julie Su, Geoffrey St John, ect.

I understand why cause the whole Penders' lawsuit was the catalyst to this decision, but damn. 25 years of development and theyre just...gone? Well, since the comic was cancelled at issue 290, is there anything to really look forward to? I'm honestly not connecting with this new direction that Archie planned. Was this reboot the reason it was discontinued? Cause I can see there being a backlash from how detached this is pre-Genesis Wave.
