Those are some good turnarounds. It would be nice to fill up the Freedom Fighter Roster with Fan Characters.
Thanks for the references. I modeled him with an angry look... I always thought Sonics neutral position is angry, it supposed to show he has an attitude.

What is Sallys height compared to Sonic?

Gloria whats your website or deviant site?

Here's a height comparison. They look fairly similar:

I guess all I mean is, make sure that he doesn't look mad when he's, say, smiling, or looking worried, etc. I mean, just look at Sonic when he's on the SatAM logo:

    Image

He doesn't look like that most of the time, but it's nice to have him be able to do other sorts of expressions from time to time.

Btw, the Sally model is looking great so far!! =)

Thanks, I decided to make her two inches Shorter than Sonic. I can't use Satam as reference because most of the characters were the same height. So I'll have to play around with their sizes.

I felt like it might look better if Sonic's mouth were a bit higher on his face, and a little smaller, so I tested it out on Gimp:

    Image

I actually think it helps a lot. Now it looks slightly more like a hedgehog's snout and less like a shark's. And, of course, I based the mouth placement on... Fox McCloud. Lol, it's my solution to everything!!

    What do you think?

Sonicroc, I dislike it. It would make sense in that one image but when the camera moves and its face is at a different angle the mouth would look too far out. If I show you the wire frame you would see that the mouth is not large at all. I took a page out of the 3D luney toon models. Putting the mouth underneath like that presents different problems like having a hard time seeing his mouth move. The difference between this Sonic and many others is that I have a jaw. Not just an opening that moves in different angles. I pushed in the chin a bit more. I'll take a shot at a lower angle so you can see what im talking about. A good example is the banner image above, I like how Sonics mouth is under his snout.

I just realized the banner image changes on this site but there is one with Sonic on the left hand side if you ever get a chance to see it.

Oh wait... I think you're right, it was just the angle of the picture I was looking at. (And I also didn't notice that his jaw was open.) I just looked at this picture for comparison, and the snout actually looks pretty good here:

    Image

Have mercy on me, lol! :twansurrender: I have basically no experience with creating 3D models, so I don't have much intuition when it comes to that sort of thing. Sorry for wasting your time there.... :nervous:

I'm just glad his mouth isn't on the side of his face like in the games, lol.

EDIT: But the one thing I'm sticking with is the eyelids. It looks weird having them come straight down like that, instead of going with the shape of the eye. By contrast, see the ever-perfect Fox model with his eyes somewhat closed:

Thant's funny I was going to say that you were right about it looking goofy. All the changes I've made added up and his mouth was too large. I pushed back the snout then I had to push in the cheeks lift up the chin adjust the teeth and edit where the head meets the mouth. I really like the smaller mouth, it makes him look a bit younger.
The eyelids still need to be adjusted, there are going to be animations for his brow and eyelid. the lids are just to blink and squint. I know the texture is off, its because I forgot to do them when I was doing the fur.
But thanks for your input, I do believe you made the model better.

So I take it you're not interested then? That's fine, a reply would've been nice though. I just wanted to offer help. But whatever. The designs on your 3D models show a lack of understanding of even the most basic character design principals like appeal and silhouette, so your opinion of my work or lack thereof isn't a big deal to me.

@verafx: Dude! I am honored! Thanks for the plug on Facebook, lol. And that is a definite improvement; it makes him more appealing, and more Sonic-looking. I feel so influential. *bathes in glory*

This book was sitting on a table in my house, and I was like, hey, here's a better example of what I meant about the eyelids:

    Image

(Because the shape is more similar to your Sonic's than Fox's.) I like how they sort of point downwards in the middle; it makes it more natural-looking with the shape of the eyes.

@Gloria: No offense, but you are being unreasonable. You took about a week and a half to reply to his asking for your Deviant page, and now you are mad because he didn't reply to you the same day you posted about it.

I mean, I have been feeling somewhat bad about "posting over" your posts, but this just sort of happens sometimes on forums. The concept of "threads" makes it seem like it will be one linear conversation, but in practice it often turns into multiple threads of overlapping conversations, even if those multiple conversations involve some of the same people.

But I recently was in your shoes on a different forum and I got annoyed at first too, so I know how you feel. I'm just saying, I don't think you need to instantly break all possible ties with this project because of this. It's clear that you have something to offer in terms of your animated character skills, so personally I would find it sad to see you give up on him so soon. But it's obviously your decision.

Instead of just asserting that his models lack "even the most basic character design principal," why not draw some sketches of how you would change his models based on what you know? (keeping in mind, of course, that he is going for a slightly more realistic look than most Sonic material.)

If Gloria wanted an instant reply than that person would have PM, email, or facebook message me. Getting upset and attacking someone's creativity is not something we need on this project.
Constructive Criticism is more beneficial for everyone.

On some brighter news, I had a conversation with Phil the 3D Artist from Sonic Fan Remix (game). He told me the game is still being developed and they had issues with programmers and that's why they were M.I.A (missing in action) for awhile. Most like myself thought they were shut down by Sega, but he confirmed that wasn't the case. I'm very happy to learn this.

SonicRoc I do have Sally's eyes curved like that and I thought it was something that gave a character a feminine look. I can try it out on a male character but I can't picture it looking good.

*points back at the Fox picture* I think if you're going to have his eyes shaped like that, you pretty much need to have the eyelids come down in accordance with the curvature.

This looks weird to me, having the lid coming down at a vertical angle:

    Image

Here's an extremely rushed look at what I'm going for:

Hey that's awesome! I only saw a video of it for the first time while reading your interview, but it is beautiful! And plus, the "fact" that it had been shut down by Sega was part of the reason I was worried about the fate of your project. That is encouraging.

P.S.: Lol, if you're going to separate out my username with capitalization, it would be SoniCroc. Croc is a video game character who had a few awesome games, and my "name" is a homage to him.

After studying the Fox model further, I have discovered... that I don't know what I'm talking about.

    Image

I don't know, maybe that's not what the problem is. In fact, DON'T do what I said to do, lol. Looking back at my edited drawing on your Sonic's eyes, it looks like the "angry eyelids" that always annoy me when people draw them. I was confused.

EDIT: I guess the reason I thought the eyelid looked weird in that picture is because it's just coming down a tiny bit, but and you probably just had it like that for modelling purposes, not for them to b like that normally. I feel so... enlightened to the truth...

Yeah I get you. I don't like it being super straight also, a good question I have is should the bottom eyelid come up to meet the top eyelid when he blinks? When I bring the bottom up it looks as if he has bags under his eyes, like he's tired. I'll keep it for Chuck, but for Sonic Maybe I'll make the top eyelid come straight down to blink.
    I'll work on that next.
