TWILIGHT SPARKLE IS BEST PONY!!

When I think I've chosen a favorite, another pony makes me reconsider. *sigh*

Twilight is probably my fave as well, she's so multi faceted (ironic since when I first saw her I expected her to be the token boring 'normal' pony). It helps that she is so similar to SatAm's Sally, albeit with some of the latter's development problems actually ironed out.

As for Rainbow Dash, as Velvet mentioned earlier, she is obnoxious, but there is something I like about her. I guess her problem is actually similar to what happened to Sonic in the same show, in that they kind of simplified her personality of being brash, smartalecy and hot blooded to making her increasingly egotistical, rude and incompetent as time went by. They have shown signs of improvement in the very late points of the second season however (I think her chemistry with Fluttershy is an adorable redeemer). I think they just need to look more into how her positive traits support the team like the other five.

King Sombra = Naugus, both creepy, perhaps to much for a cartoon, both with short careers and almost only grunts as voice

Discord = AOSTH Robotnik, as bumbling bozo , like SatAM Robotnik for despicable. Well, that's not quite alike, but was Discord or Nightmare Moon... Because...

Chrysalys = Snively she somehow lacks in the 'over Discord' department, could see Chryssy as Discord's lackey any day...


Oh yeah, Rarity is best pony (and can buck the flank of your best pony two or three times in any day of the week)

Sonic Underground Robotnik is more closer to the adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog robotnic aka Looney Tunes version

Discord is probably closer to the games or Archie Eggman, a complete goofball and nutjob, but his clownish demeanor hides a genuine malice that can actually get one over the heroes. Granted AoSth Robotnik wasn't as COMPLETELY incompetent as fandom gives on.

Chrysalis leans towards Satam Robotnik following his Flanderization, able to cook up a truly malicious scheme, but too blinded by their arrogance and gleeful sadism to aprehend any possible drawbacks.

And after just half a season, I end up biting my tongue. It's surprising how much character development they put into her in just a handful of episodes. Makes me wonder if Sonic may have been improved in the third season.

Having watched a number of episodes, I can safely say this show has won me over completely. Besides the great animation, lovable characters, and good writing, the show has been a much-needed respite from all the animosity and cynicism of today. Like SatAM, this was a concept that should not have worked, but not only does it work, it works extremely well!

Wow, you guys seem to be pretty harsh on a show you admit you don't even remember.

Yeah, the old show had some pointless fluff episodes...I'd say maybe half the series, but the point was not to be girly and feminine at all costs. There were some stories about identity and being yourself, there was a good amount of action and fantasy, there were lessons, there were characters with distinct and believable personalities, and they weren't all "girly"...much of what FiM is is exactly what I always liked about the original, which is why I like FiM. In some ways FiM does it better because it's much more deliberate and focused, but it so clearly got its inspiration from the original series, that to dismiss the original as "for babies" is kind of insulting to the series' own history, never mind to fans who actually wanted something like FiM because of the strengths of what came before it.

(And personally, I still prefer Rescue from Midnight Castle over FiM's first two episodes, which are based on it)

This is a good point. While I don't care for G3, G1 had some strong points (the TV specials and the Tambelon and Golden Coin arcs) that live on in FiM. As someone so used to having his favorite shows cancelled (SatAM, Gargoyles, Firefly, Farscape) or mistreated (Korra), it's nice to see a show still going strong.
