I figured I didn't need to be creative, so I wrote the first words that come to mind, then I got in here and saw what everyone else did for theirs. s***. Probably should've thought it out more.

You can always change it if you like, you need only ask. ;)

Well, I really like laser weapons, and since I'm fan of Megaman X, as well likes the number 5, I guess that could be the best way to explain why I picked this.

    Anyone remember AdventureQuest?

    http://www.aq.com/

Yeah. I played that once. I signed up, I started with the name Maria. Not my name, but... well, I didn't want to give them my real name! At that time I didn't have my online name of May yet either (although it certainly ties in well!).

Maria (obviously) was taken. Adding numbers to the end was boring after I tried the obvious ones (666 and the like), so I started... adding letters. MAiyRhIA. Tends to get shortened to Maiy or - brilliantly - May.

    :)

My little brother freaking loves that game. Or at least he used to.

I personally like to shorten it to Mai. Same sound, more fun letter combination.

My user name actually started on a Lord of the Rings forum. I originally had some sillier username, but decided I wanted something more original. Given that all my questions where "Why did this person do this" or "Why did this happen" in nature, I went with what I thought was "Why" in Elvish. ... As it happens the site I was using was rather inaccurate, but I've been using the name for years now, and I still like it.

    Ah yes, Mai, forgot that.

Did you ever tell me what Mankoi DOES mean? If not, what? ... If you did, remind me?

My username follows the ideas that the United States government is in a current state of stagnant; which is heavily contributed to the status of politics containing "Party Over Country."

Party Over Country reflects a high school prom royalty -- a popularity contest. The two party system the US government uses only exists due to the media and their lack of interest in other parties besides the Republicans and Democrats -- third party candidates are unknown. A limit of choices surely follows and the voters are only left to the lesser of two evils.

    Tragic.

PorpoiseMuffins wrote:I thought it would be cool to start a thread where everyone can give a bit of an explanation as to the story behind their online handle (username).

I'll start, seeing as everyone is probably wondering why the heck I go by "PorpoiseMuffins," and I don't believe I've ever explained it before

I have always found the sound of the word "porpoise" hilarious-- even before I knew what on earth a porpoise was (small dolphin with a blunt snout, as I assume most people already know). When I first started using the web back around '96-97, "Porpoise" was one of the usernames I used whenever signing up at a forum. Back in 2002 I signed up on a home recording forum called homerecordingconnection.com. I still remember the day I signed up-- I went to type in "Porpoise," and something just came over me. I'm not sure whether Porpoise was already taken by another user, or whether I just figured I should pick something a bit more unique, but in that moment I threw together the most ridiculous sounding combination of words I could possibly think of: PorpoiseMuffins.

Well, I ended up sticking around and loving that forum. The community there really took to the name, so it stuck and I've been using it ever since just for consistancy's sake.

I used to have a habit of drawing this forlorn cartoon porpoise with nostrils (no, porpoises don't actually have nostrils) on nearly everything (the same image that you see in my avatar). See, a few months back I had an idea-- maybe this porpoise I always used to draw could actually have a name, and maybe the username I always go by could have an actual meaning.... Thus, PorpoiseMuffins the character was born!

PorpoiseMuffins is essentially a cartoon porpoise version of myself. My real name is Michael, and "Muffins" is kind of a joke nickname I've been given on rare occation (and hey, it starts with "M"). PorpoiseMuffins (It's like another way of saying "Muffins the Porpoise," but in his world everyone goes by species:name instead) now has a developed history and personality based around my own. Someday I hope to make him into an Internet cartoon star ;)

So that's the rather lengthy explanation for my username (whew!). :nervous:

One thing's for sure... It's unique!

EDIT: I just realized... "PorpoiseMuffins" is kind of like "Spongebob"

Disney needs a character like Muffins...
