I know I had to have seen it back in the day (though I remember AoStH more) but what really got me interested in going back to it was the Archie Sonic comic that shared a number of its elements. I remember off and on getting issues back in the mid to late 90's growing up and here recently I've been jumping in more as well as really delving into SatAM.

My strongest desire to is do something of a graphic novel that amps up the elements of SatAM I think are its best features and tone down some of the unnecessary side effects of the show being aimed at Children during the early 90's.

Though, if I were to put it all to a point, SatAM has it's special place in my heart for having THE BEST Robotnik. I appreciate Dr. Eggman and the game versions of Robotnik/Eggman, but Jim Cummings coupled with that visual design out of SatAM just CANNOT be beat.

But that would be simplifying just a tad. :P

The Sonic SatAM version of Robotnik was far dangerous and chilling! His malice always brought me close to the TV screen :robotnikshifty: !

His evilness was second to none!

During the 1990s when I was little, my sister liked Sonic SatAM, and even recorded some of the episodes. However, I never actually got into the series back then. But then, in the year 2003, I remember seeing a commercial on the Fox Box (now called 4Kids Toonzai) for Sonic X. This got me intrigued, so I decided to watch some of my sister's old VHS tapes with Sonic SatAM. I didn't necessarily hate it, but I wasn't interested enough to continue watching episodes. When Sonic X first aired, I loved it more than SatAM. However, many years later, after having read good things about SatAM on a Facebook discussion board, I decided to give Sonic SatAM another chance, so I watched some episodes on Youtube. I'm glad I did, because now I love Sonic SatAM more than Sonic X! I eventually bought the Sonic SatAM box set at Target for 15 dollars as a result. It's a bummer that Sonic SatAM wasn't very popular back in the day, because Sonic SatAM is the real deal!

Isn't it funny how my sister's favorite cartoon as a child eventually became my favorite cartoon as a 19-year-old? And people muster up the nerve to say that Sonic is only for children! :robotnikthumbsdown:

I really wish Ben Hurst hadn't said that because I really don't think it was true. It may not have been TMNT huge, or anything like that, but I know few people who grew up in the 90s and didn't watch it at least a little.

Out of all honesty, I was pretty much going by what Ben Hurst said in his interview on the SatAM box set. I personally didn't know many people that watched SatAM, because I was just a baby during SatAM's hey day. Perhaps SatAM was popular, but, considering that SatAM was cancelled after Season 2, something apparently went wrong.

From what I heard the current in charge made a 'two season limit' to the network's cartoons, meaning either way SatAm was doomed. Granted while it did have a notable fanbase, I think it was a cult favorite at best, a lot of 80s/90s shows that are mentioned as ground breaking were likely only mildly popular the time they were made, then nostalgia kicks in a decade or so later. Wait and see how most of today's shows turn out in two or so decades.

It probably didn't help that SatAm wasn't really endorsed anywhere else but the US. Europe was all about AoSth promotional wise and Japan barely even knew about Sonic, let alone the cartoons.

This is probably why I got off to a bad start with SatAm, here in the UK it was quickly shoved in midway through AoSth's airing rather than simultaneously, making me think it was a reboot of the show rather than a separate cartoon and since I was used to AoSth's more comical characters and concepts, I wasn't that big on it, savoring when they returned to airing the rest of AoSth (I remember liking the pilot even then however, maybe because it was more colorful and humorous akin to AoSth). About a decade or so later however, I heard about it again, and decided to give it a retry. Watching it from a more educated outlook than before meant I could enjoy it a lot more.

I remember Ben saying SatAM was cancelled because the new president of ABC (or someone like that) at the time didn't like it. But yeah, it was NOT promoted well at all, which probably didn't help. Even in the US, I seem to remember there being more of a commercial push for AoStH, with what little merchandise there was resembling that more.

I got into the series at around the 1998 U.S. reruns. At the time, I was most familiar with Sonic 3 & K, but didn't actually play much at all since I was fairly young and I wouldn't own a console for another year or so. So watching TV was the next best thing. As I grew older, I strayed from the Sonic franchise a bit, but later returned when my younger brothers showed interest.

Prior to adolesence, I reminisced and grew nostalgic of my early childhood. Looking back late in life, I saw how much meaning so many things, including SatAM in my life held. I'm glad I rediscovered SatAM later in life, as it allowed me to see the effort and meaning that was put into the production of it.

    Hey guys,

I'm new on the forum, and I'm also a new member of the fandom.

I got into SatAM this year (2012) by watching some reruns on KidsCo (you guys heard of this channel?). The episodes are aired in a random order, but so far that's been OK. I accidentally picked up on the episodes 'cos my younger brother was watching them. So, obviously, I'm not one of the "old" fans that have seen SatAM back in the 90s, particularly since I'm actually still some years shy of 20 years old  . Makes me seem like I'm still a "kid", huh? Before this year, I only knew about the video games, and I used to think that Sonic was just some SEGA game, nothing else. However, now that I've finally watched SatAM, I really regret not discovering the series sooner.

Really, I never thought that a series could go from meaning nothing to me to meaning a huge amount in just a few months! After looking at the random episodes on KidsCo, I went and watched everything on YouTube so that I could appreciate the full series, because I liked it so much already. When I watched the Season 2 Finale, (this may sound ridiculous) I felt like my heart was going to burst, because I just found it so awesome! I loved the relationship between Sonic and Sally, so when those final scenes of them fighting the Doomsday Project together were playing, my mind was just going "WOW!", all the way up till the kiss. Sorry if I sound like some "squealing fangirl" (and I'm a guy) but that was really how I felt. Up to that point, it was the kind of ending I wanted and expected! I actually felt happy for them, even though they were cartoon characters!

I don't remember when I first started watching SatAM, but I recall seeing a few episodes on ABC channel. However, when it was canceled I think I had only seen one or two episodes. I don't recall being too beat up about it, I just remember thinking 'Oh cool! Talking whale!' and moving on.

years later, I found out through the Archie Comics that SatAM was aired on the USA Network. By this time, I was more into SatAM and had discovered the history and characters VIA the internet. As I watched the series, I realized I wanted a way to record each episode. so, I took my old black Karaoke machine, popped in a tape cassette, pressed record, and put the microphone against the TV speaker. I made several tapes (and re-recorded over several more >.<) but the one that stands out in my mind the most was a tape containing 'Ultra Sonic' on one side and 'Sonic and Sally' on the other.

For two years (maybe three, I'm not sure.) I did this. When I got into writing, I would watch the episode, then type up what I remembered on a typewriter. (I started doing this when my tape recorder kicked the bucket) Finally, the dreaded moment came. the reason I had been recording on a tape recorder and typing up the episodes. SatAM was cancelled. I remember laying in my bed, crying into my pillow over what had been a early morning staple for me. drying my face, I went downstairs (carrying my silver boom box), put in the tape of 'Ultra Sonic'/'Sonic and Sally', and listened to the audio from 'Ultra Sonic' while I ate breakfast.

Ever since then, I have been a die hard SatAM fan. No show has ever had as much of a emotional impact on my life as SatAM. As I've grown older, I find my life feels more meaningful now that Ive started writing SatAM fan fiction again. I hope to do this for as long as I possibly can.

Wow, tiff15, I feel your pain. Even though I'm an extremely new fan (starting this year 2012), I too was crying when I found out how SatAM had been cancelled. I cried even harder a while later when I found out that Ben Hurst had died 2 years back, and never managed to get the show (i.e. Season 3) back on TV despite trying almost all his life. That was just sad... :(

I was 4 years old when my older cousins showed me sonic 1 and 2 on the genesis. needless to say i was hooked on the games and the fact that not one but two shows aired only increased the hype.
AOSTH was aired more though and I missed alot of SatAM sadly so some episodes left me in the dark.
I even thought Uncle Chuck was Sonic's father at one point. :pinch: but anyway durring the games, my cousins would tell me all about the comics as well as elements of satam so i got really into it.
Unfortunately my folks didnt have the cash to buy the comics, and for sure my cousins werent gonna hand them over (i didnt take very good care of the hanna barbarra ones i had as a kid, which i could just kick myself now :stressed: ) so the only bits and pieces i caught were from glimpsing in a few issues here n there whenever my mom took me to a giant eagle to grocery shop. there was an iggle video however where 2 VHS tapes were available to rent, one for AOSTH and the other SatAM where I was once again reminded of the 2 cartoons, but able to immerse myself more into SatAM and I began to really appreciate it for what it was, a very ambitious saturday morning cartoon. I would even bring it up in conversation to friends (back then i had no idea Sonic the Hedgehog had the nickname Satam so I just called it "The Good One" ;) )
and they would be completely lost, they kept going on about "Spandex Rainbow Warriors" and "Dragonballz"
so I just kept the nerdyness to myself all these years. IggleVideo closed up, and the comics stopped in a lot of places, I had thought SatAM all but lost. Then the DVD set showed up and I couldnt believe it, I almost cried I was so happy! I bought it without a second thought and watch it through on regular basis. However the comics I fell drastically behind, Sonic X didnt help much either. I began to really hate Archie. and then issue 200 came out and blew me away. I had ideas running through my head like "what if they start to follow satam again? and will eggman revert to his old self after snapping?" well neither happened, really. It was more of a throwback to the good old days. Even still it's the only place I can continue enjoying it.
and thats my story of how i got hooked on sonics  dropped it like a hot potato :robotnikinnocent: and became hooked again :)
