    Sad news about Ben Hurst

Postby Quexinos on August 31st, 2010, 8:42 pm

This isn't easy to say right now because we were so close, but I want to get the word out ala one of his last requests should this ever happen. Today I got a phone call from Pat Allee.

Ben passed away a couple weeks ago. They think it was his diabetes, which I didn't even know he had. I guess it came kind of suddenly. He even had a doctor appointment on Wednesday but he died Tuesday before he could go. What they believe happened is that he fainted and then went into a diabetic coma. Then he just died peacefully in his sleep, which is how he wanted to go. He didn't feel any pain or anything so that's comforting.

I feel very weird by this whole thing. He was such a lively man. He lived such a full life and he told me numerous times that if he died tomorrow, he'd be fine with that. I'm truly grateful for having known such a great man. I'm sure he's happy wherever he is now. I'm upset but knowing these things I think I'll be able to carry on.

Also in case you're wondering, Pat had been trying to call me for two weeks now. I didn't recognize the number so I never answered. It wasn't until today when she left a voice mail that I finally got the message, so that's why it took two weeks for me to find out about it.

Thanks Ben. It was wonderful getting to know you and hearing all your amazing stories. I'll never forget them and I'll never forget you either. I hope your next life is as fulfilling as your last. And know that all. your friends here miss you and love you very much. So again, thanks for everything.

That's a shame. I don't think he was the best thing that ever happened to the show that many say he was but you can't deny some of the magic he applied. It was nice he kept in touch with the fans on occasion and did try to get the show back on ground. He shall almost certainly be missed. :(

This sucks to hear...it really does.

My condolences go out to the Hurst household right now...they need support at this time. =(

I was a Facebook friend of his, and one thing he told me in a chat we had was that he apparently was in possession of some SatAM drawings in his place...I really hope those don't end up in garbage, as that would be a disservice to the legacy of the show.

pat will go through his stuff and I think most of the Sonic stuff will end up in my court. I won't keep them all to myself or anything, I'm sure I'll share them as much as I can. I would like a few mementos though.

It's sad that he's no longer with us. Thank you Ben for helping to create a cartoon that both kids, and adults could enjoy.
    May you rest in peace.

I don't know if this is a good time to ask this, and I apologize to anyone in advance if I tick someone off by asking, but does anyone know how many years Ben lived?

He was a little younger than my mom IIRC, I think he was around 55-60, but I'm not 100% sure. Believe me, though, when I say he had a full life.
