In order to keep the workings of the forum clear and transparent to members, administrative actions including member bans and username changes will be posted in this thread.

    Hi, fellow SMSers.

As you may recall, one month ago (9th of June), members Louis the Hedgehog and A Knothole Resident (AKR) were banned from the forum. (this is the thread where the bans were issued)

Ever since then, there has been a great deal of discussion among the moderation team about whether this was the right decision -- and the general consensus was "no".

So, about two weeks ago, we decided to change their bans to temporary (one month) bans, effective from the original date of banning. We also updated the rules around this time (as already mentioned in the news section) to ensure that in the future, we can only issue temporary bans for members, unless they have already received a ban. This will ensure fairer treatment for everyone here.

I want to make it completely clear that this decision was not made hastily, nor as the result of any manipulation by A Knothole Resident or Louis the Hedgehog -- it was arrived at independently.

Louis and AKR will be allowed back into the forums shortly -- I ask that everyone here put past events aside, and give them a warm reception.
If problems persist then we will deal with them accordingly, but people can and do learn from past mistakes.

If anyone has any comments or concerns about this, please contact me via private message as soon as possible. The board is not a suitable place to be discussing this. In order to keep the peace, any negative posts made about their un-banning may need to be deleted. Please remember the forum guidelines -- treat everyone with respect.

    Thanks!

    User Banned: DrinkyHedgehog/EliseOram.

I don't really like announcing these kinds of things, but since Drinky did participate in some RPGs, I thought it would be useful to know.

    Nona-Eyes banned.

Also, I'm just requesting that members refrain from bring up AKR's ED page (that means you too, AKR). I want to add "unless it's relevant", but I can't see any reason why it would be relevant.

This is not an outright ban, but talking about it seems to serve no purpose and ALWAYS leads to an argument that also serves no purpose. So for the sake of board peace, please just leave that topic alone.

    Just a request to members:

We don't prohibit necroposting, but if an old thread ended after an argument or heated discussion, please try not to revive it if you don't really have anything to add. The reason I'm asking this is that members may have left since then, changed their minds, or may have let the thread die because they did not want to talk about it anymore.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular since it's come up a number of times, and I've considered saying something each time. It hasn't caused a problem, but I'd like to keep it that way.

Again, this is not a rule, just something that would be appreciated, so I leave it to you guys to decide what's "old" or when you feel you have something significant to say.

I've noticed that some members have been abusing the absence of a post edit time limit by editing and/or removing their old posts from weeks, months, or even years ago.

This destroys the board's history and messes with everyone else's posts. If you're going to regret what you say, then don't say it in the first place.

The limit is now set back to 48 hours.

AKR has been banned for reasons that should be fairly obvious now.
