Hope this it hasn't been long enough to make this thread necromancy, but yea, conceptart.org is very helpful and a lot of people do improve.

A great example is MindCandyMan. Roughly seven years ago, he decided to upload a digital painting attempt and several drawing-studies everyday. Tons of people gave him ideas on what to work on and all that, even recommended certain books and such, and within roughly a month, he showed a lot of improvement in self-portraits. Couple months later, he got better at head drawings and started doing pen & ink studies. Now, he's a professional artist and teacher.

Pretty cool eh? Heh, well anyways, conceptart.org is the way to go if you really wanna go places. I know deviantart has that critique thing now, but conceptart is a better place 'cause of the large community and focus on original art. Deviantart is practically nothing but fan-art, photos of cosplay, and fan fiction. Okay so there are some people good at original ideas there, but for the most part deviantart isn't really that great for feedback. It may be large and popular, but it isn't exactly a site for learning.

To put it simply, if you were to ask on deviantart if there's anything you can do to improve composition, color theory, etc, then you're most likely gonna get someone linking you to this:



To put it simply, people there practically praise and worship badly-sketched MsPaint "comics." Maybe i'll make a thread on great drawing resources & websites. I could go on about how now is the best time for anyone wanting to get started in art

Yeah, and even the good artists there are pretty useless. I tried asking for recommendations for good figure drawing and anatomy books there once. I said I was going to be taking some figure drawing classes, and that I thought working through some books would be a good compliment to that. But I don`t think anyone even read my thread. All I got was people saying ``take a figure drawing class`` when I clearly wrote that I was already taking figure drawing within my post. Yes, they were good artists but if they`re not even going to bother reading what I`ve written they`re not helping. It`s almost kind of snobby, ``oh, he wants to look at books, he must not know the value of drawing from life like we do.``
