Freedom Fighting: Training or Lack Thereof.

Upon fleeing Knothole, the Freedom Fighters were merely children, and in terms of the show's canon, completely alone. Upon taking that into consideration, how did they learn to utilize guerrilla tactics against Robotropolis? As they were able to do this to relative success for a great number of years, one posits the following question: did they have the benefit of some professional pedagogy under unseen characters, or rather, are they simply autodidacts? Does anybody have any theories regarding this subject?
